What is Ribose?

D-Ribose, or simply Ribose, is a simple, five-carbon sugar that is found naturally in our bodies.
It is an essential building block of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the body’s most basic form of energy), which supplies energy to our cells. When the food you eat is broken down, the energy you obtain from it is converted to ATP within cells. If the cell does not have enough Ribose, it cannot make ATP. So, when cells and tissues become energy starved, the availability of Ribose is critical to energy recovery.

Ribose is not like any other sugar. Other sugars are used by the body as fuel, where they are used by the body to recycle energy. Ribose, on the other hand, is special.
