This flexible, rubbery tissue functions as padding, a cushion for bones and joints. Joint cartilage requires glucosamine and sulfur needs to be incorporated into cartilage in order to make and repair it. Glucosamine plays a crucial role in incorporating sulfur into cartilage. As we age, glucosamine levels go down, which can lead to eventual joint deterioration.
Chondroitin sulfate is a natural substance found in the cartilage that performs several important functions to keep cartilage healthy. It attracts water, including nutrient-rich fluid into cartilage. A lack of water in cartilage can cause dryness, pain and loss of nutrients in the joints.
